Radamel Falcao has been handed the number 9 jersey after completing his loan move from Monaco to Chelsea
Chelsea's new striker Radamel Falcao has been officially handed the number 9 shirt by the club.
Falcao wore the same shirt for Manchester United last season and wears it regularly for his National team, Colombia.
The 29-year-old was signed on a loan deal from Monaco and will be hoping to have an impressive season to get a permanent deal with the North London club.
Falcao however will hope the curse of the number 9 shirt at Chelsea do not get to him.
The last striker to wear the number 9 jersey was Fernando Torres who arrived from Liverpool in 2011 on a £50million transfer.
Before leaving the
club last season, Torres managed just 45 goals in 172 games in his
three-and-a-half seasons at Stamford Bridge.
Other players who won the number 9 shirt for Chelsea in recent times include Mateja Kezman, Khalid Boulahrouz,Franco Di Santo and Steve Sidwell.
Hernan Crespo and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink were the last players who were prolific wearing the shirt for Chelsea.
Chris Sutton, Gianluca Vialli, Mark Stein and Tony Cascarino have also worn the shirt for the Blues in the Premier League era.
"Radamel Falcao will wear the No 9 shirt during the 2015-16 campaign," a statement read on Chelsea's official websiet
"The
Colombian striker, who recently moved to Stamford Bridge on a
season-long loan from Monaco, will take the shirt which was last worn by
Fernando Torres prior to his departure.'
