The Pentagon says it is reasonably certain that an Islamic State militant Jihadi John has been killed in a drone strike, but a US Army spokesman says the military is still waiting for confirmation.
"We are reasonably certain that we killed the target we intended to kill, which was Jihadi John," Col. Steven Warren said.
Warren
said that the US had a great deal of confidence based on intelligence
that the target identified was Jihadi John, also known as Kuwaiti born
British national, Mohammed Emwazi.
Warren
also said the drone strike was a fairly routine operation to kill
Emwazi, who he described as a primary recruitment tool for Islamic
State.
"This guy was a human animal and killing him is probably making the world a little bit better place", he added.
